There are a lot of unregulated companies currently offering sell and rent back schemes. While these might suit people looking for shorter-term options, they are unregulated and therefore do not guarantee your long-term future in your home.
Sell and rent back schemes are often confused with Home Reversion. We want you to know what to look out for and how you can tell the genuine authorised and regulated home reversion providers from the other schemes that are out there.

BACKGROUND - SELL YOUR HOME AND STAY IN IT
Sell Your Home and Stay in It was originally formed by Michael Holt, Managing Director of our sister company, Charterhouse Standard Holdings.
The original Charterhouse Home Reversion product was created as a solution to the particular situation of a customer who urgently needed to sell his home in order to provide a special level of care for his wife. An elderly man himself, he was concerned about what would happen to him if he sold his house in the usual way.
Because the company had years of property expertise, they were able to look at the situation from a different viewpoint from the normal financial services route and offer a tailored solution. News of the solution Charterhouse came up with and our alternative to equity release spread through word of mouth, as other people found that it was right for them too. So, prior to regulation, Sell Your Home and Stay in It was born, created as an independent Home Reversion company specifically designed to handle the increasing number of related enquiries.
The resulting product appealed to younger applicants as well as the traditional equity release age bracket of 60-65 plus, therefore offering options for those approaching retirement as well as those already retired. From there we developed the Home Reversion Plan we now offer, and, following the new regulation, the company is now authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
WHY WE CHANGED TO SYH CHARTERHOUSE
Our background is firmly rooted in property. As our sister company Charterhouse are property specialists and qualified Chartered Surveyors, we felt it was time to go back to our roots and reflect that in our new name.
Our Managing Director has been in the property business for over twenty five years, so this experience and expertise helps the company to view the products we offer from a property perspective, as well as a financial one. It also makes us very different from many companies in the equity release sector, who are usually the more traditional financial services providers.
In every other way, our service and product remain the same, but by changing our name we wanted to emphasise where we have come from - our property background.

MEET THE TEAM

Ian and Allen are the friendly voices at the other end of the telephone when you call our freephone number and are the people you need to talk to find out all about the SYH Charterhouse plan, or to give you a personalised illustration. Ian is our Negotiations Manager and oversees all sales of the SYH Plan. When not helping people to take out the SYH Charterhouse Plan, Ian is a dedicated football fan and supports Leeds United. He is married with two children.
Yusef is our representative for all things related to the Financial Services Authority regulation and keeps SYH running smoothly on a day-to-day basis. He counts skiing, motorsports, photography, gardening and DIY among his interests, and is married with two stepchildren and two cats.
Daryl ensures the SYH Home Reversion process goes through as quickly and as smoothly as possible. He has been in the property business for over twenty-five years - experience that proves invaluable for SYH! A Londoner born and bred, Daryl is a Chelsea Football Club supporter. He is married with two children.
Rachael is the one who writes all our literature and advertising. She is also responsible for the new website! Rachael has a marketing background in both financial and professional services and originally hails from Chester. She enjoys dancing, singing and amateur dramatics, and supports Manchester United Football Club. She has just the one cat!
Allen is the other friendly voice on the end of the telephone, helping you to understand the SYH Charterhouse Plan and how it all works. A keen runner, Allen is married and is kept busy with his young son!
